There is no better way to accelerate your development as a musician than through taking private lessons. I have 15+ years experience teaching all the low brass instruments, and my students routinely place in ILMEA honors groups. If you are interested in taking a lesson with me or having me teach/clinic at your school, please contact me here.
Please review my studio policies, as taking lessons with me implies that you have read and agree to them.
Lesson Policies
Effective August 1, 2025
Communication
- I mainly communicate regarding lessons via email, either en masse or individually, so please check regularly. I will text anything time-sensitive or with reminders.
- On occasion, I will give out my personal phone number for students to text, but please do not abuse this privilege. That being said, when I am able, I am always happy to answer student questions regarding music or to lend an ear if there’s something else where I may be able to help.
Attendance
- Students: Please show up to your lesson with enough time to put your instrument together and have all valves or slides oiled or lubricated before we begin. We want to spend our time together working on music, but if you have a more significant issue with your horn, we can have a look.
- Always bring your instrument, mouthpiece, and any music we’re working on to every lesson. If you forget music, I can often accommodate this. If a student forgets to bring their instrument or mouthpiece, the lesson will be canceled and not refunded, unless this is due to circumstances beyond their control, such as a school instrument being in use.
- A student arriving later than the scheduled start time of their lesson will receive the full time paid for if I can fit it into my schedule. If not, we will go for as long as possible until my next lesson is scheduled to begin.
- We all run late. If I’m running late enough that a student will not receive a full 30, 45, or 60-minute lesson (depending on which length we agreed to) due either to my or the student’s schedule, I will inform the parent/guardian and student as soon as I am able. If we’re unable to reschedule for another time that day or within the week, prior to the ensuing Monday, I will refund or credit the parent/guardain in full for the lesson.
- For a remote lesson, if there are connection issues when the lesson is scheduled to begin or a link gets lost in a text or email thread, text or email me and do what I can to help.
Scheduling & Cancellations
- When I’m unable to give a lesson at its scheduled time any given week, I will inform the parent/guardian via text or email as soon as I am aware of a conflict and offer rescheduling options. I reserve the right to have my teaching schedule set by 8 p.m. the evening before a teaching day.
- I teach no later than 9 p.m., so the latest a half-hour lesson can begin is 8:30 p.m. If we begin later than that due to student tardiness, I can’t guarantee I will be able to teach any overages past 9 p.m., as it depends on the building schedule.
- If a student is unable to attend a lesson for any reason and I receive written notification from a parent/guardian at least 24 hours in advance of our scheduled lesson, the cost of that lesson can be refunded or applied to a future lesson/month as credit.
- Regarding months when parents/guardians are aware of conflicts with their student’s regularly scheduled lesson time due to travel, sports, etc., please inform me of any lessons the student will miss before the first of each month. The parent/guardian will not be charged for those weeks unless I do not receive 24-hour advance notice.
- Without 24-hour notice from a parent/guardian that the student will not attend a lesson, it will not be refunded. If a student does not show up and I have no advance notice from any party, it will not be refunded.
- I understand that extenuating circumstances can arise within the 24-hour period (illness, a family situation, or other emergency). In that case, the parent/guardian should contact me, and we can work something out. Notice of illness needs parental/guardian confirmation if initial communication comes from the student.
Makeup Lessons
- Most weeks, I can offer makeup lessons, and I can work that out with the parent/guardian or student. If we’re able to schedule one, payment for the missed lesson will apply to the makeup lesson within the calendar week it was originally scheduled.
- In the event we can’t conduct the makeup in person, we can have the lesson via FaceTime or Google Meet at the parents’ discretion. Please ensure a reliable internet connection that can handle both video and higher-intensity audio. A webcam is required, and an external microphone is recommended.
Payment
- Payment is due on the first of the month for all lessons within the month. I will email the parent/guardian an invoice at the beginning of the month.
- I accept payment by Zelle, Venmo, and check, with a preference for electronic payment. My Zelle account is linked to this email address, and my Venmo is @kevanfeyzi. Generally, I don’t accept week-by-week payment and prefer not to receive cash, but this is negotiable.
- An outstanding balance of one or more unpaid lessons means the next lesson will not occur until the balance is paid, nor will any further lessons.
Discontinuation
- To discontinue lessons, I require at least a two-week advance notice in writing from the parent/guardian of the date desired for lessons to conclude. A student is entitled to two further lessons after notice of discontinuation as per this policy. Any money paid for future lessons will be refunded as applicable.
- The following examples are for clarity:
- If the final lesson were to occur on October 3rd, I need notice by September 19th, and the parent/guardian will only owe for one lesson in October. In this circumstance, if I do not receive the fee for one October lesson by October 1st, the October 3rd lesson will be canceled.
- If the final lesson is scheduled for October 17th, please confirm before October 3rd. Lesson fees for the 24th and 31st will then be refunded.
- If the parent/guardian notifies me on or after October 10th that they wish to end lessons that month, the fees for the 17th and 24th will be retained, but the 31st will be refunded.
- If the final lesson is scheduled for October 31st, I need to be informed of discontinuation before the 17th.
- If I receive notice of discontinuation on or after October 18th, no refund will be given for October lesson fees.
- No money will be refunded if lessons are discontinued without advance notice.
